January 16, 2013 at 12:14 pm 0
Although bed linen pieces do not appear in our shopping lists often, it is important to have a least some knowledge of the different bed sheet varieties as this will help you select a bed linen set that meets your personal needs, habits and preferences.

Types of bed linen

Cotton Bed Linen The usual choice of many is cotton bed linen. There are several types of cotton fabric. The two softest used to make bed linen sets are Egyptian and Supima. Differences between Percale and Sateen Bed Linen Sheets
October 4, 2012 at 10:22 am 0
When choosing bed linen sheets we often face terms percale and sateen. Although we know they are different but what are the differences exactly? Do they matter a lot when choosing what bedding to sleep in? Both percale and sateen are simply two types of fabric that are often associated with bed linens and they differ only in the way that they are woven.

All the fabrics are woven using warp threads (the ones that run up and down) and the weft thread (the ones that run across). The arrangement of warp threads and weft thread determines what type of fabric we will have. So only this different arrangement is what makes percale and sateen two separate fabrics. (more…)

How to Purchase Bed Linen Sheets
June 15, 2012 at 9:52 am 0
In order to purchase quality bed linen sheets that will serve you many years and get softer after each wash, one has to know some key factors. 1. The first one is a thread count . Thread count refers to the number of threads, both vertical and horizontal, in 1 square inch of fabric. It it generally considered that a thread count of higher than 100 is desirable –and anything above 180 is ideal. There are fabrics available with thread counts up to 1000, but anything that excess 400 is thought by many to be simply extraneous. In general - the greater the thread count, the softer and more luxurious the bed sheets will feel.

We would not advise purchasing your bed linen sheets of more than 400 thread count. Although they may be marketed as super luxurious, a very high thread count usually means that the individual threads are thinner therefore a 1000 thread count bed sheet may not be as durable as a 250 thread count sheet. The best option is to buy bed sheets of a thread count of 200-400. (more…)

March 21, 2012 at 12:29 pm 0
Haven’t you ever thought of finding alternatives for cotton bed sheets? Whether for the purposes of trying something new, saving the planet, preventing allergies and illness, or simply feeling better and more rested, increasing number of people nowadays is searching for cotton alternatives for bed linen. With development of textile processing technologies, more alternatives become available for quality night’s sleep – bamboo and hemp bed linen being among them. Industrial hemp is not a drug, but a non-psychoactive variety of Cannabis. Hemp fabric is actually woven out of fibers from the hemp plant. The hemp plant grows to about 20 feet high and the fibre, when stripped from the plant, is as long as the plant itself, giving hemp fiber extra strength when woven into fabric. The history of using hemp as a fabric for home textiles dates back more than 10,000 years, but is just now becoming popular in the modern world. (more…)
